Corridor 22

Winter 2022
Supervising: Adrien Blackwell
Collaborator: David Moraru

Situated in a 1970’s modernist tower neighbourhood in Brampton, Ontario, Corridor 22 is an affordable mixed-use housing project that reimagines the site as a walkable and diverse public space. At the core of the project is a central corridor with a pedestrian-focused median park and a vehicle and bicycle lane on either side. On the ground floor of each building are programs designed to support the creative endeavors of individuals, while also creating opportunities for collaboration and cultural exchange. These spaces extend into the linear park at the centre of the corridor, with covered trellis spaces and multipurpose community kiosks.

At the centre of each building is an atrium space open to all floors with a skylight above, allowing daylight to diffuse throughout the circulation spaces. The wide unit plans allow for greater daylighting, ventilation and views, and accessibility, based on a regular grid of glulam beams and columns that are exposed on the interior.
